🧵 The Artisan Story

Every dupatta we create carries the soul of a skilled artisan — hands that have inherited centuries of craft wisdom, passed down through generations. We are proud to partner with master craftspeople across India who keep these living traditions alive.

🌿 Bandhani — The Art of Tie & Dye

Originating in Gujarat and Rajasthan, Bandhani is one of India's oldest textile arts. Artisans tie thousands of tiny knots by hand before dyeing the fabric, creating mesmerising patterns of dots and waves. Each piece can take days to complete — a true labour of love.

✨ Banarasi Silk Weaving — Threads of Royalty

Woven on handlooms in the ancient city of Varanasi, Banarasi silk is celebrated for its intricate zari work and opulent motifs inspired by Mughal art. Our weavers spend weeks crafting a single piece, interlacing gold and silver threads with silk to create heirloom-quality textiles.

🌸 Phulkari — Flowers from Punjab

Meaning "flower work" in Punjabi, Phulkari is a vibrant embroidery tradition where artisans stitch geometric floral patterns from the reverse side of the fabric. Traditionally made by women for weddings and celebrations, each Phulkari dupatta is a celebration of joy and femininity.

🔷 Ajrakh Block Printing — Ancient Geometry

Practised for over 4,500 years in Kutch and Sindh, Ajrakh uses hand-carved wooden blocks and natural dyes — indigo, madder, and turmeric — to print intricate geometric patterns. The process involves up to 16 steps of printing, washing, and sun-drying, making each piece a masterpiece of patience and precision.

🌱 Our Commitment: By choosing Dupatta Bazaar, you directly support rural artisan communities across India, helping preserve craft traditions that are part of India's National Handloom Development Programme. Our handloom products are eco-friendly by nature — crafted with natural fibres, traditional dyes, and zero industrial waste.
